Craps is an action packed game where the money can disappear just as quickly as it is put on the table if the player does not know what they are doing. However, if they take the time to learn how to play craps online for real money, or even how to play free craps online, they have a much better chance of making that bankroll grow and walking away with a nice profit. Let’s take a few minutes to go over some common terms and then talk about some strategies for craps online.
Craps Odds
Walk up to any craps table in a casino and you will hear a litany of terms that will confuse you. Since many of the terms at the table are related to things we will not discuss, we will not cover them. Things such as a Big 6 or Big 8 are considered sucker bets by better players and these are wagers you surely do not want to place online.
Any Craps-a one roll bet that is used to protect a Pass Line bet. The bet pays off when a 2, 3, or 12 is rolled. Pays 7:1.
Any Seven-a one roll bet that pays when the following roll is a seven, in any form. Pays 4:1.
Buy-this is when you buy a number in order to get better odds. For instance, you can “buy” the 4 when placing a bet for a five percent commission and receive true 2:1 odds instead of the standard 9:5 odds.
C & E-This is a craps or an eleven bet. Some players will use this on a Come Out roll. You will need to pay two units for every unit bet as one unit is placed on the any craps and one unit is placed on the eleven.
Come Bet-exactly the same as a Pass Line bet except it is placed during the roll.
Come Out Roll-this is the initial roll when a new player gets the die or after they have already established and made a point.
Craps-when a 2, 3, or 12 is rolled on the Come Out Roll.
Don’t Pass Line-complete opposite of the Pass Line. You are betting against the roller hitting his point and you will have to lay odds instead of getting odds if you choose to put a wager behind the line.
Field Bet-can be placed anytime and pays when a 2, 3,4,9,10,11, or 12 hits.
Hardways- betting that even numbers will come out in pairs, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, 5-5, before the number comes out in another fashion or the roller hits a seven and ends the roll.
Inside-this term is used when betting the inside point number, meaning 5, 6, 8, and 9.
Outside-refers to betting only the outside point numbers, 4, 5, 9, and 10.
Pass Line-this is the first bet made when a new point is being established. If a seven or eleven rolls, the bettor is paid even money. If a two, three, or twelve is rolled, the bet is lost to the house. Any other number is considered the point. Don’t Pass Line bettors are betting that the shooter will seven out before the number is hit again. Pass Line bettors are paid when the point is hit again before they seven out. Once the point is established, bettors can also lay or take odds on their bets.
Point-the number rolled on the Come Out roll.
Seven Out-bad news, you lose everything unless you are betting on the Don’t.
Best Craps Strategy
Pass Line and Odds- this is the method that most beginners will use, but they are unfortunately missing the boat on a lot of profits. When a better is ONLY using this, they are placing a wager on the Come Out Roll, placing odds behind the bet, and then wishing for the roller to hit the point again. This method can get frustrating at times, as the roller will sometimes hit numerous numbers other than the point and then seven out.
Don’t Pass Line-be ready to be hated by the rest of the table because when they lose, you win. Quite a few players will play “wrong” when a table is cold and then flip back to “right” betting when someone finally starts to hit some numbers. You can make money this way, but remember, you are laying odds instead of taking them. That being the case, your win percentage needs to be much higher in order to turn a profit.
Playing the Numbers-this is where the real money is made. Once the point is rolled, you can make a “place” wager on any number. The 4 and 10 will pay 9:5 unless you buy them. The 5 and 9 will pay 7:5. The 6 and 8 pay 7:6. You can play inside, outside, or make an across wager, where you have all of the numbers. If you are playing the Line, then you will not have to cover your point because it has already been covered.
Press and Down-quite a few big bettors will use this strategy for fear the roller will not hit the number more than twice before hitting a seven. They press their entire bet when it hits and then take the bet down when it hits a second time. For instance, if they have a $10 five and it hits, they are paid $14. They will throw the dealer an extra $1 and press the bet to $25. If it hits again, they are paid $35 and they then take down their $25 bet, for a total of $60 with $11 at risk. A tidy profit of $49 that just about covers the rest of their bets (assuming they bet across with a $10 unit). If they can hit two or more numbers like this for every shooter, they stand to make a considerable profit at the table.
